This is Amtrak six, the east bound California Zephyr. Three engines happen occasionally with the Zephyr. It appeared that number 43 was running isolated. (i.e. The engine was running but not providing any power to move the train.)

After a little over seven years, I finally got to see UP9900 in person again. UP9900 used to be a low emissions testbed. The experimental exhaust after treatment has been removed. Click here if you don't know what I'm talking about.

America's Railroad Salutes Our Veterans color scheme. - Seen here, being transported by Amtrak's California Zephyr number five, is a former F40PH that has been converted to a non-powered control unit (also known as a cabcar) that can be used as a baggage car. Cabcars are typically used on commuter trains that are setup in a push-pull configuration, where the engineer controls the train from the locomotive in pull mode and from the cabcar in push mode. Cabcars that are also baggage cars are commonly referred to as cabbage cars by railfans.
