The Rocklin Rocket is pulling its short train off of the Valley Subdivision and into yard.

It may not look like it, but something a little uncommon is happening here. In my years of watching trains here I have never seen the Rocklin Rocket take a train into the yard and then leave a little later to work another Subdivision, the Roseville sub. in this case. I have seen the Rocket take the east leg of the wye from the Valley sub. to the Roseville sub. or vice versa in the past, but when they brought the train into the yard that meant the end of the work day for the Rocket. In this photo the Rocklin Rocket, having finished tying down the train it had brought in a little earlier, is now leaving on the Roseville Subdivision heading the short distance northeast to Rocklin, CA to pick-up three railcars. Of course just because this is the first time that I have witnessed this doesn't mean it hasn't happened before.

After I moved to the other side of the railyard, the Rocklin Rocket came back with the three railcars mentioned earlier. This time the Rocket is shoving its cars into the yard after having gone around the wye first.

Pushing Capitol Corridor number 538 eastward.

The California Zephyr number five is arriving very late, it was held just east of Truckee, CA for several hours due to freight train interference according to @AmtrakAlerts. Then the crew's time ran out at Rocklin, CA while they were waiting for Amtrak's Capitol Corridor number 538 (previous photo) to finish it's stops in Roseville and Rocklin. They had planned to change number five's crew in Roseville but 538 was delayed leaving Roseville because of, you guessed it, freight train interference. The freight train in question had stopped to remove the mid-train DPUs and the end hadn't cleared a signal which prevented the dispatcher from aligning the switch 583 needed in order to leave. You can't see it, but Amtrak's fiftieth anniversary paint scheme for Operation Lifesaver is in there somewhere.
